Music: Modest Mouse
This band is not everyone’s cup of tea, they are the epitome of indie rock (in my opinion). If, however, you just discovered your love for them… you are so welcome.
Their lyrics are one of the main reasons I love their music so much. They hit deep and speak to my soul.
My favourite songs include:
- People as Places as People
I feel this way about my loved ones, and it makes me think about my future spouse and how I will feel about him - Parting of the Sensory
This is one of those songs that you listen to when you’re drunk and feeling philosophical and ready to talk about life and death - Dashboard
The epitome of a positive attitude
I had the enormous privilege of watching them live in South Africa at ParkLife Festival and I was pretty much in awe the whole time. I recall at some point not even being able to sing or dance or move. All I could do was stare, and try to process what was happening.
Are you loving these ridiculous Instagram throwbacks or what?
Makeup: Physician’s Formula
I love the Physician’s Formula brand for many reasons, including being creulty-free, sustainable and eco-friendly(ish); most of all I love that they are not super expensive (but not as affordable as essence or Catrice, for example), and the quality is as good, if not better in some cases, as Mac or Bobbi Brown. Yes I said it.
Their ‘Butter’ range will truly change your life – their Butter Bronzers and Blushes are holy grail to me. Everything about these are just beautiful – pigmented, blendable, silky, buttery goodness for your face.
Also. I’m not a 6-year old so I don’t need my makeup to smell like coconuts, but this stuff smells like a fucking island holiday that dreams are made of. Go give them a sniff and thank me later.
Mental Health: Dr Caroline Leaf
Dr. Caroline Leaf is a communication pathologist and cognitive neuroscientist with a Masters and PhD in Communication Pathology and a BSc Logopaedics, specializing in cognitive and metacognitive neuropsychology.
You can read all about her and what she does here, but I can highly recommend following her on social media, her podcast or on YouTube. Some of her teachings have helped me immensely with understanding and taking control of my anxiety, depression and intrusive thoughts.
The information which she shares is valuable to anyone though, not just someone struggling with mental illness.
Personal Care: Twinsaver Soothing Vitamin E tissues
Yes, I am recommending tissues. Let’s move on.
These bad boys are so damn gentle on your nose, trust me when I say that you will never go back to any other tissues.
I do my fair share of crying on the regular (thanks Kdramas, mental illness and therapy), but I also suffer from year-round allergies so I have about three of these tissue boxes around the house in strategic places, 24/7. There’s an aloe version of these, too, but I prefer the Vitamin E. Say good-bye to red sensitive nostrils forever. You’re welcome.
Food: Goodleaf CBD Infused Water
Firstly, if you don’t know the difference between THC and CBD, please go educate yourself before coming back to finish this post.
Goodleaf is a South African CBD brand that have been around for a couple of years now. They started small and are now both online and available in three stand-alone stores in Joburg and Cape Town. I’ve enjoyed following their journey, especially their product range expansion, and I’m excited to see what they have in store for us next.
Anyway, to get to the water – they are available in 4 different flavours, my favourite being Mango & Ginger. These waters (drinks?) contain zero sugar and calories (so don’t expect something similar to Bonaqua or Valpré flavoured sparkling water when you sip on these).
Not only are these delicious and healthy, but they help to calm me TF down, even on my most anxious days. Highly recommend.
That’s all folks. Let me know your thoughts in the comments or connect with me on Instagram.
Kthanksbye. x
